Course Description:

Learn about the evolution of text delivered in song and how it led to an art form that has served as a mirror to Western history since 1598. This exploration of what Richard Wagner called the “universal artwork” is open to beginners and veterans alike. The course will focus primarily on the cultural significance of opera as opposed to the nuts and bolts of music theory. A great way to prepare for humanities seminars in college!
