I was born in the Netherlands and moved to California at a young age. Growing up in San Jose, I attended Santa Teresa High School, where I took a myriad of AP classes and participated in a host of extracurricular activities, including Associated Student Body. After high school, I went on to study Human Biology at UC Santa Cruz. I’ve always found scientific inquiry fascinating, and I deeply enjoyed the rigorous but collaborative academic environment in college. As a professional tutor, I strive to inspire interest in academics while building the crucial skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.
As the oldest of four siblings, my passion for helping others learn was instilled in me at a young age. I would often help my younger siblings with their homework, and I loved to see their reaction when they made breakthroughs on tricky concepts. I continued helping students learn during college, where I worked at the Santa Cruz County afterschool program. After completing my degree, my path brought me to San Francisco, where I worked in the Humane Education Department at the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
At AJ, I tutor students in biology and standardized tests. The 1-on-1 tutoring style allows me to tailor each session to a student’s unique needs and struggles. I enjoy explaining a topic multiple ways and providing tangible connections to help my student gain understanding of a difficult subject. By breaking down large complicated topics into smaller parts, a student can learn how the small parts come together to function as a whole.
Outside of the offices of AJ tutoring, I enjoy cooking, crafting, and hiking the beautiful Bay Area hills!
