I’m a native of the East Coast who moved to Silicon Valley during the dot com era to advance my career in high tech. My journey started with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. One of my first positions as an engineer was the design of digital signal processing computer hardware for the now famous NSA. This was in the early days of the Internet, before the general public had any access or knowledge of the Internet at all. Yes, we actually had computers before the Internet! I later went on to earn a quantitative MBA at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, PA. After settling in the Bay Area I’ve held Product Management and Business Development roles in tech start-ups and some very large, well known public companies in Silicon Valley as well.
My academic and career choices were always driven by a real passion and aptitude for math. When tutoring I strive to help students grasp the fundamental concepts behind the material and then build on their understanding through exercises and problem solving. I find some students do need to work on their math fundamentals at first to build their confidence. I begin by gauging my student’s overall comprehension of fundamentals and then seek to build on those while filling in any gaps along the way.
I tutor because I believe there’s no substitute for a great teacher, or mentor, when you’re looking to learn and master any new skill. Tutoring also keeps me connected to the passion I always held for mathematics.
My wife and I have been married for 20 years and we have a daughter who is now entering her “college prep” years in high school. So I’m familiar with the perspectives of parents and students as you work together to navigate this often stressful season in life. It’s my sincere wish to partner with you to help your student reach his or her full potential in math!
Other than tutoring, I like to travel and have been to over twenty countries across four continents and accumulated over a million miles in air travel. These days I love spending time with my wife and daughter and our growing collection of family pets. I also enjoy learning about and playing around with Linux-based embedded systems and the Internet of Things.
