I attended UCSB for undergrad, earning a BA in Sociocultural Linguistics with honors. I then went on to receive my MA from Georgetown University in Language and Communication. Needless to say, I know all about the rigorous demands of being a student!
When I started 7th grade, I found myself lost in a sea of variables and negative numbers. Luckily, I had a great math teacher who took the time after school to help me make sense of it all. What I learned to love about math is that there is always a right answer and a way to check your work. It’s pretty cool! I aspire to give my students the same experience of insight and discovery that I was given.
I tutored throughout my four years at a competitive public high school in Southern California. Then, in graduate school, I joined the English for Heritage Language Speakers Program (EHLS), where I developed English communication skills for native speakers of Arabic, Mandarin, Swahili, and Pashto, who were preparing for careers in the federal government.
I thoroughly enjoy finding each student’s particular way of learning and communicating. I relish the challenge of adapting my approach to each unique situation. I believe that success is determined by two factors: hard work and ingenuity. As Tom Brady always says, “Grind. Adapt. Prevail.”
Growing up, I was a competitive equestrian and an avid reader. While my days of horsing around may be behind me, I remain a voracious reader, especially if the book is science-fiction! You can also find me cooking, taking my dog to the dog park, and going to the movies with my fiancé.
