I began my tutoring career in high school, when I volunteered at an education program called Project Read. After class at Sequoia High School, I would walk over to the public library and meet with ambitious elementary school students to provide support with their coursework and academic enrichment. I found the sessions to be highly enjoyable and rewarding. I also realized that I excelled at helping students gain interest and develop skills in classes they found difficult.
After high school, I attended UC Davis and studied computer science. I continued tutoring students with math, science, and programming. I grew in my skills as an instructor and was continually impressed by the diverse learning styles of my students. I learned to shake up my approach depending on the needs of the student. I enjoyed sharing in the feelings of success that my students felt when they made break throughs on tricky concepts or scored higher in a class than they thought possible.
At AJ Tutoring, I strive to help my students achieve their academic goals while gaining confidence about their abilities and scholarly potential. As a high school student in the Bay Area, I felt firsthand the trials and tribulations of taking IB/AP classes, studying for standardized tests, staying up at night doing homework, and more. Going through that experience can be difficult, and I enjoy helping students who are going through the same process. Most of all, I want students to consider what they are studying academically and apply what they are learning to solve real-world issues.
Other than tutoring, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, watching football and basketball, and spending time with my three younger siblings.
