I was born in Spain but raised in the beautiful Bay Area. In middle and high school, I excelled academically and delighted in learning new things. I also enjoyed helping friends and classmates with tricky concepts or homework assignments, and I found that I had a knack for translating abstract ideas into simple and easily digestible pieces. Although I appreciated each class and subject, I did reserve a special place in my heart for math throughout my years in school. For me, math has always been an inroads into truth and beauty, and I deeply enjoy helping others see the fun in math, despite its difficulties and obstacles.
I continued my studies and teaching of math at UCLA, where I began tutoring pre-algebra at a local middle school. My favorite part of the day was working with my students and helping them engage with the material. I also started tutoring English as a Second Language, and I committed myself to focusing on the individual needs of my students. Learning styles differ widely, and being able to adjust to them is what makes for an excellent tutor. I also believe that creating a sense of trust between student and tutor opens the door for more effective sessions, and I have always worked with this idea in mind. As an AJ Tutor, I aim to show my students that math does not have to be a source of intimidation and anxiety. In fact, math can be pretty cool.
While I’m not tutoring, I enjoy traveling, listening to music, eating great food, and spending time with friends and family.
