My fascination with math began as a child growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. I was enthralled by the elegance and beauty of math, and I was lucky to have a family that shared and encouraged my passion. I’ve found that intellectual curiosity and academic interest are contagious, and I strive to inspire that sense of wonder in my students. Because I loved Chicago so much, I decided to stick around and earn my degree in Mathematics at Northwestern University.
Throughout both high school and college, I supported myself by tutoring math and test prep privately and with tutoring centers, and I found it to be incredibly rewarding and fun. I grew a large private tutoring practice on the strength of referrals from many happy students. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed the challenges and the rewards of tutoring math, and I’ve come to appreciate how each student comes to understand mathematical concepts in a different way. No two students are the same, and it is fascinating to see how some students absorb a subject like algebra visually while other students grasp it theoretically. With clear and tailored explanations, I’ve discovered that any student can comprehend and excel at math.
After I graduated from college, I moved to NYC and began working in finance. However, after five years in the field, I decided to fulfill another lifelong dream and travel the world. During that time, I volunteered teaching in Cambodia, and I realized how much I missed working with students. Upon returning to the United States, I jumped right back into math tutoring. At AJ, I value the 1-on-1 environment for the customization it allows. I love helping my students discover the fun in math and overcome the challenges of tricky material.
In my free time, I really enjoy travel, drawing, hiking, and exploring the majestic parks and trails of the Bay Area!
