I got my start in tutoring and education while still in high school, working as a Sunday School teacher at my local synagogue. Since then I’ve worked as an academic tutor, religious school teacher and youth program leader. I’ve also tutored students at UC Davis and UC Berkeley, and the wide range of learning styles and ability levels I’ve encountered has impressed upon me the importance of an adaptable teaching approach.
I decided to specialize as a professional test preparation tutor when I realized that my passion for education and skill in standardized tests (99th percentile ACT, 98th percentile SAT) could be combined into a job that would allow me to help students achieve their goal of attending their dream colleges. I excel at fostering the most critical test-taking strategies and concepts that assure my students feel confident and well-prepared going into standardized exams. I also strive to instill a calming perspective, as I understand how stressful high school can be.
My philosophy at AJ comes both from my training as a tutor and my experience as a youth program leader and a religious school teacher. I believe that teaching is a holistic process, and that the best way to help students succeed is through getting to know them individually; only then do I believe a teacher can determine how best to help a student understand, learn, and grow.
When not in the classroom, I can be found somewhere outside: skiing, hiking, backpacking, or running.
