I have always been enthralled by science and its potential for illuminating our understanding. After graduating from San Jose State with a degree in chemistry, I worked at the Stanford Liver Clinic as a research coordinator. Though I enjoyed the application of what I studied, I realized how much I flourished in an academic environment, so I decided to pursue my master’s degree followed by my PhD in chemistry from UC Santa Cruz.
Throughout my time in academia, I have taught, trained, and mentored a plethora of students and undergraduate researchers. I believe that training, teaching, and mentoring are great ways to build confidence, morale, and rapport with students. The 1-on-1 environment is particularly important and effective for its customization and efficiency.
At AJ, I strive to help my students succeed in their science classes and grow to enjoy the process. A large part of cultivating mastery of a subject is one’s attitude and confidence, so I believe in providing positive motivation and moral support to my students. I excel at finding a balance between challenging my students and providing support to build their confidence, and I often find that the two approaches go hand-in-hand.
Other than tutoring, I enjoy traveling, reading, and exploring new parks and hiking trails!
