I was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended Lick-Wilmerding High School. I graduated with honors from UC Santa Barbara with a double major in Political Science and History of Public Policy. There, I gained my first experience tutoring while working for the university’s Campus Learning Assistance Services. I had the opportunity to support undergraduate students with historical research and writing. I realized how enjoyable it was to work with students, and I delighted in helping them realize their potential as learners. I found, as well, that I excelled at helping students realize their academic goals and improve their intellectual skill-sets.
After college, I decided to combine my interests in data analysis and community organizing by working on local political campaigns in the Bay Area. Unable to quiet an urge to see more of the world—having lived also in Turkey and Taiwan—I moved to Spain after the 2014 election cycle. Over the last school year, I taught computer science, biology, and standardized test prep at a public high school in the heart of Madrid. I also did a good deal of private tutoring outside of school, and it was in working 1-on-1 that I developed my ability to explain concepts and problem solving in a way that meets the individual learning styles and thought processes of my students.
At AJ Tutoring, I specialize in helping my students succeed on standardized tests. I’ve found that each student begins the tutoring with a different knowledge base and a unique approach to problems. I strive to hone in on the strengths and weaknesses of each student so that he or she can maximize score potential in a way that is most effective. My focus is not only to provide the instruction and support to prepare my students efficiently for test day, but also to share my enthusiasm for mastering standardized test-taking strategies. I enjoy seeing students gain satisfaction from solving a tough problem that was initially puzzling.
In my spare time, I enjoy training with my master swim team, going to the beach, and keeping up with current events!
