I have a strong science and math background and a great deal of experience making these difficult subjects accessible to students at all levels. I hold a BS from Stanford and an MA from UCSB in Ecology and Biology. When I moved out to California from the East Coast to attend school, I planned on getting a degree in conservation biology and doing research. However, as I progressed through my academic career, I discovered that my true passion was in education and sharing what I love with others.
At AJ, I work with students to help them find their own “ah-ha” moments and reach their academic goals. Each student is unique, and I enjoy exploring knowledge with new eyes with each one. I believe that all students can succeed. While achieving good grades is often an intermediate goal, ultimately, I strive to make sure that students also develop good study skills and a strong foundation of academic confidence that will help them love learning for years to come. My ultimate goal is to make learning enjoyable.
When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy singing, hiking, bird-watching, reading, cooking, and kayaking. Students that work with me will soon discover that learning can be silly, goofy, energetic and creative.
