Genetics and Evolution

Pop culture and current events are awash in references to DNA, cloning, and genetic engineering, but what exactly do we mean when we talk about the study of genetics? This course will take students through the basics of genetics, including a review of evolution and how it impacts our understanding of the building blocks of life.

Course Description:

Genetics can be a difficult idea for students to grasp. By starting with a review of evolution, we will build a solid bridge to understanding the principles of genetics, including finding connections in our own lives. Some possible projects include making lineage trees, pedigrees, and short answer questions that help students better understand genetics and evolution. Since these topics can require a high level of background knowledge, we will review the basics as well as the history behind genetics and evolution.
