Brandy Williams

Academic Tutor

Growing up in Southern California, I always loved science, but learning effective study skills and how to use my resources to withstand the academic rigor I encountered took time and effort. That learning process led me to pursue a career in tutoring and teaching, as it became a personal passion to help other students get through, and excel in, rigorous curricula.

I received my Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from California State University Fullerton, as well as a minor in African-American studies. I then completed post-baccalaureate classes in chemistry, biology and physics and moved toward a tutoring and teaching career focused on the sciences.  I graduated from the University of San Francisco with a master’s in teaching with an emphasis in urban education and social justice, and a teaching credential in chemistry. I have also worked as a personal trainer, and within health clinics as a scribe and patient coordinator. My goal is to apply all of these experiences in the lessons I teach my students.

I believe all students can learn complex content with the proper study and organization skills. I approach content with my students from a standpoint of not only learning the specific concepts, but also mastering how to learn. I love to see the “light bulb” come on for students when they grasp difficult concepts and reach new goals, and watching my students succeed and develop independence in their studies is always fulfilling!

In my free time, I like to hike, surf, dine at new restaurants, and explore new cities.
