Daniel Jun

Academic Tutor

I was born and raised in the Chicago Metropolitan area and graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. I am now pursuing a master’s degree in computer science part-time from Northeastern University.

I’ve been fortunate to enjoy and excel in varied math and science courses throughout my academic career. In high school and university, I had the pleasure of supporting my peers and fellow students through tutoring in clubs like Mu Alpha Theta, study groups, and one-on-one mentoring. I enjoy helping students strengthen their core knowledge and challenging them to apply that knowledge in unexpected ways to solve problems.

I never expected to pursue computer science, mainly because I had struggled with it in my early academic career. When I found my career intertwined with programming, I found myself back in an academic program. My success there led me to a role as a teaching assistant for object oriented programming, and I discovered a passion for guiding students through their initial forays into computer science.

Through one-on-one sessions, I have been able to watch students who had taken a hit to their confidence begin to shine from delving deeper into the technical concepts and developing the critical thinking skills to identify problem areas by themselves. These tailored sessions help students picture these ambiguous concepts, which leads them to improve their performance in class and build confidence in their mathematics and programming abilities going forward.

When I’m not tutoring or doing my homework, I enjoy setting new PRs at the gym, playing online video games, and trying out new recipes from the New York Times.
