Eileen Thai

Test Prep and Academic Tutor

I graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a bachelor’s degree in human development and a minor in psychology. Throughout my academic career, I have always found myself getting involved with my local community, whether through volunteering, teaching, or a specialized combination of both in a healthcare setting.

After graduating, I volunteered as a lead math tutor for K-11 students at my local library branch. At the same time, I also had the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant at an enrichment program, where I provided one-on-one tutoring to students in order to help advance their reading comprehension, writing, and math skills. Serving in these roles, I developed the flexibility to adapt my teaching approach while being mindful of the students’ educational foundation and individual learning processes. By being aware of these differences, I am able to tailor lessons specifically for my students and frame the content in a meaningful context for each of them.

As a tutor, I place emphasis upon building strong foundational knowledge as well as critical thinking skills. From my experience, I believe that equipping students with a solid understanding of key concepts and guiding them to think independently will successfully prepare them for any academic pursuit. I love the process of learning—the spark of curiosity, the pondering of a specific concept, and the satisfaction of finally understanding a challenging topic. In my sessions, I share my enthusiasm for learning and work with my students to help them discover academic strategies that click well with them.

When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading medical biographies, listening to the latest indie pop music releases, and biking in naturesque areas of the city.
