I was born and raised in Los Gatos, CA, and I developed a variety of academic interests growing up. Each time I found a new interest, that became what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. So, at different points in my life I have prepared for life as Shortstop for the San Francisco Giants, Point Guard for the Golden State Warriors, Sportscenter Anchor, rock star, and philosopher. I still refuse to rule out a few of those. It was not until after graduating from Santa Clara University that I truly considered my calling.
I come from a long line of educators and always felt drawn to that profession. The more I looked into teaching and tutoring, the more I loved it. I realized this was not an interest, it was a vocation. I felt called to help educate students and make a difference in my community and our future. Now, after a few years in the education world, that feeling has only grown stronger. I feel a particularly strong connection to the South Bay and know that well educated students will help their communities grow to new heights. Not unlike Thomas Jefferson, I feel very passionately that education is vital to building a strong city, state, and country. I feel very fortunate to be part of that effort in this part of the world.
I chose to study and teach history because it was something I had been doing my whole life already. I was the kid who ordered history leisure books during book orders in grade school. I was the kid who sought out documentaries on anything and everything history. I tried to soak up as much history as I could and loved realizing the connections between modern times and the past. Now, engaging with history is what I am lucky enough to do as my job. I am a sucker for a good story and that is exactly how I see history. There is so much to be discovered and still more to be learned. The most exciting part is that we all get to help write the sequel.
