Biography

My name is Jack Dawson graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2024 with a B.A. in Pure Mathematics, and went on to earn my Master of Education in Single Subject Math Education from Alder Graduate School of Education. During my graduate program, I completed my work-study placement at a local high school and earned my California Teaching Credential in Single Subject Math Education.

While teaching at Golden State Prep Academy, I discovered how deeply rewarding it is to help students build their confidence and skill in mathematics. Although I’ve always loved math, sharing that enthusiasm with students—especially those stepping into a rigorous academic environment for the first time—has been incredibly fulfilling.

During my master’s program, I taught 9th and 12th grade students, serving primarily as a lead teacher and occasionally supporting after-school tutoring and supplemental programs. My credential project focused on my 9th grade class and their growth in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. Beyond the classroom, I’ve been a passionate SCUBA diver for over 14 years and trained to be an instructor. I also tutored and TA’d for UC Santa Cruz’s SCUBA program before it was discontinued.

I believe the most rewarding part of teaching is seeing students grow and reach their potential. I strive to support all learners while sharing the beauty and joy I find in mathematics. In my free time, I enjoy hiking around the Bay Area, reading, SCUBA diving, and experimenting in the kitchen.

Happy Parents and Students

""Having someone who understands the math you don't, and not have to over stress is priceless. I know my tutor will help me if I don't get something.""
