Jackson Doyle

Test Prep Tutor

Growing up in central Pennsylvania, I loved to sit in nature and observe its patterns. I developed an early passion for symbolic structures like language and math, which led me to split time between high school and nearby Penn State University, where I took classes in Spanish, Latin, and Ancient Greek. After self-studying for the SAT, I felt a rush of confidence, both personal and academic; so many doors opened for me that I had previously thought impossible. Aiming to share that feeling, I began tutoring local students in everything from science to test prep.

I graduated from Stanford University with distinction in general scholarship and departmental awards in my two majors, art history and classics. I wrote my honors thesis on the aesthetics of anesthesia, a subject I continue to pursue alongside my ongoing history of Bay Area printmaking.

At Stanford, I worked as a DJ for KZSU 90.1FM, developing an interest in radio broadcast, but my real passion was working as an oral communication tutor for the Hume Center for Speaking and Writing. There, focused on helping my peers with the anxiety of public speaking, I solidified my love of teaching and set my sights on a career in education. Nothing compares to the joy of helping students cultivate confidence through competence.

My teaching is informed by experience in improv—I follow the philosophy that we perform best when we are comfortable, confident, and open-minded. I aim to equip my students with the test taking strategies and critical thinking skills that facilitate that confidence, and I work to make tutoring sessions an environment in which my students feel comfortable asking questions.

In my free time I enjoy hiking and bird watching.
