Tyler McGraw

Test Prep and Academic Tutor

I am a Bay Area native and attended Menlo for high school before going on to major in philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology at Washington University in St. Louis.

I always enjoyed helping my friends and classmates, but it wasn’t until college that I had my first formal teaching experiences as a personal trainer and youth sports coach. I used a wide range of strategies to meet clients at their level and challenge them to bring out their best performance. When I graduated, I realized that I could use my love of learning and experience training to give students the same edification that I was fortunate enough to receive when I was in school.

I know first-hand the huge impact that one-on-one tutoring can have on a student’s success. I have found the environment that AJ provides to be especially conducive to personalized growth; the 1-on-1 environment, along with our experiences working with students, allow us to truly diagnose the challenges students are facing and work with them to find solutions that work with their learning styles.

My goal as a tutor is to meet students at their level and give them all the tools and experience they need to succeed on their tests and in life. I was one of those odd kids who secretly enjoyed taking tests; I loved not only proving my mastery of a subject, but also perfecting test taking techniques and coming up with creative solutions. However, for many students the SAT and ACT can seem like mere obstacles on the path to college. I hope to both help students navigate the challenge of these tests and impart skills that will be useful in a variety of settings and that will serve my students well no matter where they end up.

My hobbies include reading, playing chess, lifting, and watching the Warriors dominate the NBA!
