I have always believed that sharing and building knowledge is a fundamental part of the human condition. The ability to solve complex academic and practical problems through learning is a passion that I want to share with the world.
Being a Bay Area native, I am well familiar with the emphasis on academic rigor. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics from the University of California, Davis, I completed my graduate studies in financial economics at American University. School provided me a polymath foundation in mathematics, statistics, economics, and finance. This was pivotal in my career as a data scientist, where I would translate theory learned into real-world results for major corporations. The lessons I learned from my educators proved to be invaluable, and I enjoy passing them on to my students.
I have always had a particular passion for calculus. “The study of limits” has always fascinated me in its numerous applications as well as its rich theory. I view mathematics as a dark house, which ,with proper tutelage, can be lit up one room at a time.
In particular, helping students ace the Calculus AB and BC exams has been a strong focus of mine during my tenure as a private tutor. My experience helping students study calculus in their academic classes and in preparation for these exams has allowed me to recognize how people think about the same problem in different viewpoints. I use these experiences to help me adapt my approaches to each of my students to help them learn most effectively.
The wide breadth in learning style and age of my students over the years has also allowed me to form a comprehensive yet customizable teaching style. I approach my quantitative subjects by emphasizing an analytical, numerical, and geometric approach. Students often struggle in one avenue but excel in another, so this style allows me to work on their deficiencies while highlighting their affinities.
When I am not teaching, I apply my quantitative knowledge as a day trader. Additionally, I enjoy playing and watching basketball and football and pretending I am a movie critic grading the latest streaming content.
