I grew up in the Midwest and attended Swarthmore College on the East Coast to major in biology and computer science. After going to a high school of 5,000 students and a college of 1,600 students, I experienced both the pros and cons of larger and smaller school settings, which allows me to bring various teaching styles to the table.
My first teaching experience was through private swim lessons, and I wish I started sooner. Having the opportunity to teach a valuable life skill, support and watch students achieve goals and gain confidence, and connect with students quickly became a source of happiness for me. Through teaching private swim lessons for 5 years, I learned how to format lessons based on the age, skill set, goals, and personality of my students. My students varied from four years old to adults, novice to advanced, and reserved to outgoing personalities. In college, I tutored K-8 students, and I found that I enjoy incorporating creativity into my sessions, supporting students with their coursework across the curriculum, encouraging the uniqueness of every student, and connecting with students 1-on-1.
In tutoring K-8 and biology, I want to help students achieve their goals and eliminate some of the barriers preventing them from being the best version of themselves. I work to teach not only the academic subject, but also skills that can be incorporated to various aspects of their lives, including time management and other study skills. Time management played a significant role in my life since middle school, as balancing academics, sports, performing arts, and school clubs was not always smooth sailing. I experimented with approaches until I found a functional method for me, and I assist my students through their journey of discovering their own unique methods.
You can find me hiking, travelling, running, swimming, hammocking, or playing the violin in my free time!
