Test Prep and Academic Tutor

Math and math education have been twin passions of mine since grade school, when I would often help classmates solve challenging problems and better understand new ideas. My enthusiasm for numbers flowered into me pursuing a degree in math at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. There, I was constantly part of study groups and meetings with TA’s, and I noticed how being in small group and 1-on-1 environments accelerated my learning. After working as a teaching assistant for an engineering class, I started to pursue more opportunities to be involved in education and shifted my focus to Math Education.

After I graduated, I moved to California and worked with an AmeriCorps program, in which I lead small group math intervention for middle schools in Oakland. I saw a huge change in students who had the opportunity to learn in a different environment than a lecture-style class. After finishing up my year in the program, I knew that I wanted to continue my focus in tutoring, which led me to join AJ!

It consistently amazes me how a student can change when participating in individualized education, and I want to allow as many students as possible the chance to maximize their understanding and potential with academics. At AJ, I enjoy sharing my love of math and helping others develop problem solving skills and find methods that work for them to get ahead of the curve. I favor conceptual understanding and deep learning over rote memorization of facts and formulas. I make use of the 1-on-1 philosophy of AJ to make sure that each session is perfectly matched to the distinct needs of my student.

When I’m not teaching, I will often be playing board games, games on my computer, or Magic the Gathering. I also love cooking and many outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and enjoying the great weather here in the Bay Area!
