Course Description:

Interdisciplinary science is increasingly the norm, and a systems approach to biology has replaced rote memorization. Classes may provide students with the dots, but learning how to connect them all can be daunting! Taking an ecological approach to biology will reinforce basic precepts while building down from a “big picture” view of the world.

It almost goes without saying that plants are the most important organisms on this planet; where else would we get all this oxygen? We will introduce students to ecology by exploring subjects in: plant biology, community dynamics, and landscape ecology.

This course will culminate in a guided research assignment of the student’s choosing. Additionally, students will be introduced to scientific literature, basic data analysis, and geographic information systems.
