Biography

I grew up in Oklahoma, where I gained an immense appreciation for the interwoven stories of the natural and human world along with a healthy skepticism of triple-digit summer highs. From there, I attended the University of Virginia, where I studied biology and environmental science alongside anthropology, though never escaping Oklahoma’s humidity. I completed my PhD at the University of Chicago focusing on the historical and cultural development of paleontology. On the way I earned a master’s degree in geology, and love to talk about everything from dinosaurs to de-extinction.

Higher education is a transformative experience, and I enjoy working one-on-one with students to explore their passions, reflect on their goals, and develop stellar college applications. The most important part of the college application process, for me, is fit: what sort of environment will you thrive in? I have worked with students who went on to succeed at dense urban universities and small liberal arts colleges, rural state flagships and leafy suburban campuses. Through guided introspection, I help students discover more about themselves, and help their unique voice shine through on applications.

As part of the college application process, I also work with students on bolstering their standardized test scores, responding to their learning style to maximize score improvement and strengthen confidence. I am currently working on a book project on the history of paleontology, and in my free time I admire Victorian architecture, hang out in the garden, and lounge around with my cats. Lastly, this is my first time on the West Coast, so I am taking advantage of the national parks!
