Biography

After graduating from UC San Diego with a degree in Political Science and Economics, I found myself drawn back into education again and again. What began in high school as a simple subject swap with a friend – I helped her with European History while she helped me with Algebra 2 – grew into a steady passion for teaching. I went on to tutor writing and English for ESL students in college, work as a teaching assistant for UCSD’s International Studies program, and spend the last three years as a substitute teacher across San Diego and now the Bay Area. Each role has given me new ways to connect with students, adapt to their needs, and share in those rewarding “lightbulb” moments when material starts to click.

I especially enjoy working with students on reading and writing, since those subjects are about more than finding the right answer. Writing asks students to develop their own voice, whether that means convincing a reader in an argumentative essay or creating an engaging fictional world. My philosophy is rooted in helping students build confidence and resiliency so they feel empowered to tackle new challenges, even when they are unsure of themselves. I tailor each session to the individual learner, focusing first on encouraging them to take risks and try, because that willingness to attempt is the foundation for growth. Watching students move from hesitation to confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy practicing yoga, reading science fiction and fantasy books, and exploring the Bay!
