Academic and Test Prep Tutor

Biography

I’ve been fascinated by Math and Science for as long as I can remember. This passion naturally drove me to studying Computer Science & Engineering with a minor in Mathematics at UC Santa Cruz. After finishing my undergraduate coursework I didn’t feel I’d explored the field enough, so I continued my studies to achieve a Master’s in Computer Science.

During this time I had the opportunity to TA for computational models, a very theory-heavy computer science course I’d loved taking as an undergrad. I held several section discussions and office hours each week, helping students with a range of understanding and comfort with the course content, and gained invaluable perspective from being both a student and a teacher for the same course. I was able to get a first-hand look into how a course functions from start to finish, and more importantly where students got lost along the way. As a TA I felt it was my responsibility to bridge any gaps in the students’ understanding before they lost track of the course, and over three quarters of teaching the same course I was able to learn from my previous students and focus my lesson plans on the subjects students struggled with the most. I found this work incredibly fulfilling and am committed to continuing to help bridge those gaps for students who need it at AJ.

I love all subjects really, but Math and Computer Science are where I really thrive. I also am an avid believer in strong test taking strategies and studied for my SAT at AJ tutoring myself, so I am available to do SAT/ACT prep as well.

When I’m not coding or tutoring, you can find me out hiking or skiing while listening to my favorite music, or catching a show at The Guild or Felton Music Hall.
