Biography

I’ve had an insatiable curiosity my entire life. Whether it’s STEM, social sciences, creative writing, or improvisational theater, when I pick a subject up, I always pursue it with passion and intense desire to build a deeper understanding. The greatest experience you can have as an educator is watching a student have that “Aha!” moment when a subject finally clicks, and they become excited and independently motivated to learn more. Helping students gain the knowledge and self-confidence to successfully pursue their goals, whatever they may be, is what I get out of teaching.

I started off my professional career in tech after graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley. While working in the industry, I found that one of my favorite responsibilities was mentorship. I’d present tech talks, host learning lunches, and bring new hires (often fresh out of college) up to speed on the job. Eventually, I decided to follow that passion and made the pivot fully towards education. Since then, I’ve been tutoring kids aged 8-18 in math, ELA, and computer science, and have been enjoying it every step of the way.

What I’ve learned from tutoring is that every student has room to grow in their educational journey, whether they’re struggling with the standards being covered in class or leading the pack. And when you can help students identify that next rung of achievement for themselves, whatever it is, and they finally grasp it, it can be incredibly rewarding! Even modest goals are worth celebrating.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy LARP (Live Action Roleplay), which combines my love of costuming, theater, crafting, and writing. It regularly inspires me to pick up new skills, most recently sword fighting!
