Biography

Originally from Texas, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of North Texas in 2022 and a Master of Letters in Medieval English from the University of St Andrews in 2025. I have tutored for many years, but I began focusing seriously on tutoring during my time as a Writing Center Tutor at the University of North Texas. There, I had the opportunity to work with students one-on-one while also taking graduate coursework in Writing Center Theory. Combining these experiences helped me develop my own approach to teaching and strengthened my desire to help students feel empowered and confident in their academic work.

English is my primary subject, and I have worked with students of all ages, from pre-K through the postgraduate level. While I have found teaching English at every level fulfilling, my favorite subjects to teach are AP Literature and college essay writing. Writing can sometimes feel like a whole new language, and I enjoy giving students the tools they need to express their ideas clearly and effectively. Outside of English, I have also tutored elementary and middle school students in Math skills. This has included developing new and innovative approaches to math concepts and drilling problem sets. One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is seeing a student leave a session with a noticeable increase in confidence.

My teaching philosophy centers on mutual dialogue between tutor and student. Whether we are discussing a student’s ideas for an essay or exploring their understanding of a book, I want students to feel that their perspectives are an important part of the learning process. From there, I work with them to develop the tools they need to communicate those ideas effectively in their English coursework and writing. I enjoy personalizing my approach to the needs of each student and have worked with a wide range of learners, including students with ADHD and autism. My goal is to help every student develop greater self-reliance and confidence, regardless of their background or previous experiences.

When I am not tutoring, I am usually exploring or reading. I adore being on the road and often take long drives to find hole-in-the-wall coffee shops where I can curl up with a good book.
