Biography

My path into tutoring started with family friends who were beginning the same college admissions process I’d just spent years navigating firsthand. I initially gave parents advice on how to approach the process, but soon began working one-on-one with students, guiding them through the strategy and helping reduce the stress that college admissions can bring. What motivates me as a tutor is helping families find clarity in test prep and college admissions by breaking down the process and creating an actionable plan for success.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2025 with a BA in Government and a minor in Philosophy. Long before college, though, I was already teaching: I captained my high school’s debate team and later returned to coach it while I was in college. I also tutored throughout my summers in college, where I enjoyed meeting new students and finding the right strategies to help each one learn.

As a tutor, I focus on listening to students and giving them space to explain how they approach problems and concepts. I lean on Socratic-style questioning rather than lectures to uncover gaps in understanding and build deeper knowledge beyond memorization. My goal is to help students develop metacognitive habits that allow them to walk into any test, essay, or problem set with a clear plan for how to approach it. By understanding not only what they know but how they think, students can become more confident and independent learners.

Outside of AJ Tutoring, you’ll usually find me camping, playing tennis, or watching the Texas Longhorns.
