Course Description:
The course covers the functionality of Desmos, especially those tools that students can apply to their academic coursework and to the SAT, ACT, and AP tests. Students will cover graphing, algebraic calculations, sliders, and other capabilities.
Students will learn to graph and visually recognize various functions on Desmos and develop an understanding of details of intersections, rational functions, asymptotes, scaling, etc. They will also learn to efficiently apply keystrokes and strategies to complete algebraic calculations; while Desmos is capable of doing many calculations on the fly, getting it to do the algebra the first time is sometimes more art than science!
In addition, students will master Desmos’ extensive features, including the ability to introduce sliders for variables. Students will learn how to leverage this tool to solve problems, sometimes in a completely novel way, and to apply sliders as a technique to facilitate graphing. We will also explore Desmos’ full suite of “hidden” applications. Students will learn how to access these additional tools to aid with various math techniques.
