Biography

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and have lived here my entire life. I attended Carleton College in Minnesota, where I earned a degree in Computer Science. I have enjoyed learning for a long time, especially the feeling of mastering something that once felt difficult. When academics became more challenging in high school and college, I began to appreciate how collaboration and discussion with others deepened my understanding. This led me to tutoring, where I could both support others and continue growing myself. Helping someone reach their “aha” moment is incredibly rewarding.

During my educational journey, I came to understand that even the most capable students sometimes need support. Collaboration, asking questions, and seeking help are not signs of weakness—they’re essential parts of the learning process. This perspective now shapes the way I tutor and teach others. As an educator, I aim to normalize the process of struggling and growing through challenges. As such, I believe that despite the pressure surrounding it, the SAT can actually be a fun and meaningful challenge. It’s an opportunity for students to apply their skills, practice problem-solving under time constraints, and build confidence in their abilities. I enjoy helping students discover that they are capable of improving through smart strategies and consistent effort. Watching them grow more comfortable with the material—and themselves—is always exciting.

I worked as a camp counselor for several years, which taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and connecting with each individual in a way that supports their learning style. I also informally tutored peers in statistics and computer science throughout college. These experiences helped me see that everyone approaches material differently, and there’s always more than one way to explain a concept. Tutoring is not a one-size-fits-all process—it’s collaborative, personal, and adaptive. My approach is to first understand how a student processes information, then tailor my instruction to fit that style. I focus on building trust and confidence so that students feel comfortable tackling difficult material. I encourage students to take risks, ask questions, and embrace the learning process, even when it’s tough.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy playing the bass, hiking in nature, and baking.
