Allison D'Souza

Education Manager and College Counselor

Biography

For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed helping people learn and taking an active role in their intellectual and personal growth. This drive and commitment led me to study Cognitive Science at UC San Diego, where I explored how people think and learn, and how that understanding can be translated into helping students reach their potential. While at UCSD, I also worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, gaining firsthand insight into the college admissions process and further deepening my passion for helping students in their educational journeys.

Over the past several years, I have worked with students across K–8 and high school, supporting academic confidence and skill building in math, science, and English. In addition to subject instruction, I specialize in SAT preparation and believe that score improvement is achievable with the right process and support. My work typically begins with helping students build a strong foundation in tested Reading, Writing, and Math concepts, and then guiding them in how to apply that knowledge systematically on the SAT. I work with students to break down questions into manageable steps and develop an organized thought process for approaching varied question types, with the goal of building accuracy and efficiency.

In addition to academic instruction, I’ve worked extensively with high school students to guide them through the college essay and application process. I help students organize their thoughts, refine their thinking, and tell their stories in ways that resonate with admissions committees. Many of the students I’ve worked with have matriculated to top universities, and I find it especially rewarding to see their growth in both confidence and skills.

Outside of AJ Tutoring, I’m a professional photographer, a classically trained pianist, and an avid enthusiast of the outdoors.
