Biography

I earned my BS in Computer Science from UC Santa Barbara. Through my studies in computer science, I developed a genuine interest in mathematics, particularly in how mathematical concepts build logically on one another. I’ve come to see that understanding how ideas connect is central to how I teach. My favorite moments in tutoring are those “aha” instances when a student suddenly understands not just how to solve a problem, but why it works.

I’m particularly passionate about algebra and geometry because they’re where students first encounter abstract mathematical thinking and begin to see math applied to the real world. I especially enjoy helping students understand linear relationships and word problems—there’s real power in learning to translate everyday situations into mathematical language.

I’ve worked with students in grades 1–11 through Sylvan Learning and Key Koncept, tutoring both math and reading. These experiences taught me how to listen carefully for where a student is actually getting stuck and adapt my explanations to different learners. I’ve learned that patience and clear communication matter just as much as knowing the material.

I believe the best tutoring helps students become independent thinkers who understand when and why to use a particular approach. I once worked with a student who struggled with different forms of linear equations and always converted everything to slope-intercept form, which slowed her down on tests. Once I explained when and why each form was useful, everything clicked, and she earned a perfect score on her retake. Experiences like this reinforce why I enjoy helping students develop both their skills and their confidence.

My background in computer science gives me a unique perspective on mathematics. I see math not as a collection of isolated formulas, but as a way of thinking that connects to problem-solving across disciplines. I enjoy sharing that perspective with students so they can appreciate how powerful and elegant mathematical thinking can be. Outside of academics, I stay active by regularly playing pickleball and badminton.
