Bess Frierson

Biography

I’m a graduate of UCSC, where I studied agroecology. As an interdisciplinary scientific researcher, I’ve worked in a wide range of habitats, from icy waters along the Alaskan shore to the coastal bluffs of the rarest pine forest of the world to our very own cherished redwood forest in the Santa Cruz mountains.

As a researcher, I learned the value of mentorship quickly, relying on more senior scientists to aid me in my pursuit of knowledge. Hoping to pass the torch, I started tutoring during the pandemic, inspired to help students manage the difficulties of online learning and succeed in their education. I love helping students feel confident and proud of their work as they build foundational skills that will support them throughout their time in school. I specialize in tutoring K-8 students as well as SAT/ACT Prep, with 6 years of tutoring experience from all ages under my belt. I find repetition, time management, organization, and building a strong connection to be essential at all levels of education, focusing my practice on trying to help students elevate these skills.

In my free time, I am a gardener and salsa dancer. I also have a tiny dog named Cheese, whom I love so dearly!
