Biography

I received my B.S. in nutrition science from UC Davis before studying public health at UC Berkeley, going on to complete a master’s degree in the subject. Throughout my academic career, I was always drawn to tutoring, teaching, and mentoring positions, being fascinated by how people learn and adopt new habits. Along the way, I learned a lot about how adopting the right habits and behaviors, in both education and health, can have deep and long-lasting effects on outcomes in both areas. This insight helps me find the right support for each of my students to help them succeed academically, no matter what pressures and challenges they may be facing.

Before tutoring at AJ, I taught science-based lessons in health and nutrition to diverse groups of learners, including students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I also tutored English at UC Davis for multilingual students, as well as helping my classmates whenever they needed it. My life-long passion for scientific communication has led me to specialize in biology and English as a tutor, and I love sharing my passion for both subjects with my students now.

To me, teaching goes beyond the transfer and review of information. Learning how each student “clicks,” how they learn best, and what they value most from learning enables me to deliver the right approach according to what works best for them. Motivation and productive habits are vital for building any skill, and the habits built in the classroom will ripple throughout a student’s life, even outside of class. Beyond building knowledge and skills, helping to instill a love of learning and curiosity in my students is deeply important to me.

Outside of tutoring, I maintain a life of service by volunteering at local hospitals and health systems. I am also an avid artist, and I focus on creating characters and fictional worlds as a hobby.
