Daniel Campos

Biography

I grew up in New Jersey in a Peruvian American family and earned my bachelor’s degree in physics from Northwestern University, graduating a year early. I’m now pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Physics at Stanford, where I work on quantum sensors for dark-matter searches. What originally drew me to physics was the opportunity to understand how things work, from everyday motion to phenomena we can’t see directly. Building my own telescope gave me a particularly memorable way to connect that curiosity with something tangible.

My education has been shaped by people who took the time to mentor me. Often, those relationships began simply because I asked for help. Their willingness to answer questions, explain difficult ideas, and offer guidance went beyond what they had to do. That support helped me progress much further than I had imagined and changed what I believed I could accomplish. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to offer students the same kind of encouragement and attention that made such a difference for me.

I especially enjoy helping students move from feeling stuck to knowing how to begin. Math and physics problems can seem intimidating when students see a page of equations without understanding how they connect. I enjoy breaking problems down, drawing pictures, and connecting unfamiliar concepts to ideas a student already understands. Rather than simply showing students how to reach an answer, I want them to understand why a method works so they can recognize when and how to use it again.

Outside of research and tutoring, I enjoy playing soccer and piano and traveling.
