Biography

I graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in medical anthropology and global health before completing a pre-health post-baccalaureate program at SFSU. While pursuing my goal of attending dental school, I’ve also been a dental assistant in a general practice. This path has strengthened my appreciation for science, communication, and the importance of helping others feel more comfortable when approaching something unfamiliar.

My interest in teaching developed through working with elementary and middle school students in mathematics, reading, and writing. Supporting students in groups and in private one-on-one settings, I’ve learned to balance structured guidance with the flexibility to meet each student where they are. I have also spent several years coaching tricking through group classes and individual lessons. Tricking is a martial arts-based sport that combines kicks, flips, and twists, and teaching it has shown me that even the most intimidating skills become manageable when they are broken into clear, achievable steps.

I believe effective tutoring begins with understanding how each student thinks, and how they learn best. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and can develop confidence in their abilities. At AJ Tutoring, I am excited to help K-8 students strengthen their academic foundations and build their knowledge base for the long-term.

Outside of tutoring, I still practice tricking and enjoy traveling to events in different parts of the world, meeting others who share the same passion for movement, creativity, and personal growth. I also love being outside and spending time with my cats and dogs.
