Academic and Test Prep Tutor

Biography

I’m a UCLA graduate with a B.S. in Biology, who specializes in AP Biology, SAT Math, and SAT Reading. Studying biology taught me how to break down complex concepts, think critically, and apply knowledge to unfamiliar problems. These skills continue to shape how I teach today. Ever since I took an anatomy and physiology course in high school, I’ve been drawn to biology because I enjoy understanding how different systems work together and connecting scientific concepts to real-world applications. My experience as a medical scribe at Stanford Healthcare strengthened this interest by showing me how biology translates into clinical settings. I also enjoy SAT Math and Reading because they require students to recognize patterns, think critically, and develop strategies for unfamiliar questions. I find it especially rewarding when students become more comfortable with subjects they initially find intimidating.

My passion for tutoring began when I tutored a second-grade student experiencing homelessness during the pandemic. I helped him navigate challenges that affected his learning and inconsistent access to education while building his confidence. At Stanford, I also trained and supported eight new trainees, which taught me to explain information in different ways and adapt my approach to each person’s needs. These experiences have helped me grow as an educator and taught me the importance of patience, flexibility, and clear communication.

Although my primary test-prep experience comes from my own experience taking standardized exams, I have a strong background in AP Biology, AP English Language, AP Calculus AB/BC, and AP Statistics. I have spent nine years practicing creative writing and I was fortunate to receive a Scholastic Silver Key Award for a short story. Through my experiences, I have strengthened my ability to pay close attention to tone, language, perspective, and an author’s purpose, which are necessary skills for helping students interpret SAT Reading passages.

What excites me about test-prep tutoring is witnessing the moment when a student realizes that a difficult question is actually manageable. I enjoy helping students find the patterns and reasoning behind questions that initially seem unfamiliar, and I find it rewarding to see their confidence grow as they begin to recognize that they are capable of tackling challenging material. My tutoring philosophy is centered on understanding each student as an individual. I personalize sessions by identifying each student’s strengths, areas for improvement, and preferred ways of learning, then adjusting my explanations and practice accordingly. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students toward understanding the “why” behind a concept and developing the confidence and problem-solving skills to work independently.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running and creative activities such as scrapbooking and drawing.

Happy Parents and Students

""I loved that tutoring felt fun - I looked forward to our sessions, which made the work we did stick with me more. All in all, this is probably one of the best tutoring experiences I have had!""
