Biography

After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in psychology and a focus in cognitive psychology, I knew I wanted to continue working in environments where I could combine my love of learning with my passion for teaching. My academic and professional experiences since then have taken me in a number of directions. Across all of these experiences, I have found that one of the things I enjoy most is helping others take a difficult concept, break it down, and reach the point where it finally clicks.

My background in psychology and scientific research has shaped the way I approach tutoring. At Stanford, I studied subjects ranging from statistics and experimental design to neuroscience and perception, while my research required me to work extensively with quantitative data, scientific writing, and problem-solving. I’ve also really enjoyed working with younger students, including teaching K-2 students analytical reasoning, and even some basic programming! These experiences have taught me that there is no single best way to explain something. I enjoy figuring out how each student thinks and then adapting my approach accordingly, whether that means working through a problem visually, breaking it into smaller steps, or challenging a student to explain the concept back to me in their own words.

What I find most rewarding about tutoring is helping students build confidence alongside their academic skills. It is easy for a student to decide that they are simply “not a math person” or “bad at chemistry,” when what they often need is simply a different explanation, more practice, or someone willing to work through the confusing parts with them. I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, while still being challenged to think independently. My goal is not only to help students get the right answer, but also to help them understand why it is right, and to develop problem-solving strategies they can use when I am no longer sitting next to them.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running and staying active, following sports, exploring psychology and neuroscience, and spending time outdoors. I have also spent time working with a nonprofit regenerative farm in Hawaiʻi, which gave me an entirely different kind of classroom and reinforced how much I enjoy learning new things, working with people, and tackling problems hands-on.
