Gabriel Jaén

Biography

Hi! I’m Gabe, a college grad from the University of Oregon who was born and raised on the Peninsula. At university, I received a double BA in Spanish and Political Science. I’ve taken various classes covering Spanish literature, grammar and I’ve lived abroad in Spain. For political science, I’ve taken history and politics classes focusing on international relations and power dynamics.

Growing up in a Spanish speaking family made me appreciate how embedded Spanish is in our communities and also how difficult it can be to learn a language that is so spread out and multi-faceted. Going through the ups and downs of learning another language has given me a passion for the language and an understanding that a strong foundation through grammar, rhythm and comprehension is something essential for truly becoming fluent and can be applied anywhere the language is spoken. Having a specific area of focus, plan and a goal-oriented mindset are things that have propelled my understanding and motivation through the various stages of my education in all subjects.

I’ve coached at Legarza Sports, and I currently coach and train for basketball which has really made me appreciate and understand that being part of a team pushes growth and development to new heights. I believe tutoring is an under-appreciated resource that at all levels of education is not made available or utilized enough so I’m excited to be a part of AJ and apply my mentorship abilities and team-oriented approach to helping young learners inside and outside the classroom.

When I’m not tutoring, you’ll find me playing basketball, hiking, out with friends or watching a tv show.
