Biography

To me, the most interesting part of tutoring is seeing how it can develop a student’s passions and inspire them to pursue those interests further. As a child, I was fascinated by how math and physics used patterns and logical rules to understand real-world systems. I was always an inquisitive student, and having teachers who did their best to answer all my outlandish questions inspired me to take more physics classes in college. When I began falling behind in my upper-division physics courses, I relied heavily on TA tutoring to learn how to solve more challenging problems and bridge the gap between my passions and my abilities.

After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in computer science and a minor in physics, I decided to expand my horizons through tutoring and inspire others to become passionate about learning. The one-on-one tutoring environment at AJ is a perfect fit for this goal because it allows me to develop a thorough understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for growth. I guide students through problems by building their understanding from basic principles, helping them see not only how to reach an answer, but why the process works.

I believe this level of understanding and support between tutor and student is vital for developing confidence and encouraging students to pursue their natural curiosity. My goal at AJ Tutoring is to help students build the knowledge, problem-solving skills, and confidence they need to follow their passions in learning, just as I did.

When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy spending my time playing chess or video games and reading science fiction novels and manga.
