Biography

All my life I have loved learning new things and engaging with the world of ideas, in and out of the classroom. My academic journey led me to major in economics at Washington University in St. Louis, where I was also able to explore my interests in literature, anthropology, sociology, history, and more. After graduating, I explored a number of professions before discovering that tutoring was the perfect way for me to fuel my passion for academics as well as provide a direct, tangible benefit to my community. In the meantime, I also began my practice of creative writing, and I am now a published and award-nominated poet.

As a tutor, I am driven by the satisfaction of helping my students unlock their own innate potentials for curiosity and creativity. I strive not only to prepare my students for academic challenges ahead, but also to help them discover the joy of learning for themselves. Whether I am helping a student focus and refine the claim of an argumentative essay, trace the development of motifs across the chapters of a novel, or untangle a complex metaphor, I always aim to guide them to a point from which they can form their own insights and make their own discoveries. The 1-on-1 tutoring provided here at AJ is the best environment to build the relationship students need to feel prepared for their coursework and confident in their own ability to learn.

Beyond tutoring and creative writing, I enjoy cycling, rock climbing, visiting art museums, cooking, collecting jazz records, and relaxing with my cats.

Happy Parents and Students

""My tutor did a very good job of making the teaching material clear and obvious. They were also very good at explaining what I did wrong but in a constructive and helpful way.""
