Kelly Yu

Biography

After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in computer science, I worked as a software engineer. While I value that experience, I realized after a few years that I wanted a career centered more directly on working with and helping others. I remembered how much I enjoyed tutoring in high school and was drawn back toward education, which I have always valued deeply.

I first began exploring opportunities at enrichment programs, and quickly found that I loved working with students. Helping guide students toward understanding complex material has been a joy. Hearing a student’s cheer when they finally understand a concept, or seeing a student dive into a problem out of genuine interest, has been extremely rewarding.

At AJ Tutoring, I strive to connect with students as individuals, collaborating with both students and parents to create a path that fits each student’s unique needs. My goal is to build students’ independence and confidence to tackle academic challenges thoughtfully and successfully. 

I’m excited to apply my prior tutoring experiences in both math and English to SAT preparation. I look forward to helping students strengthen their content knowledge and develop effective test-taking strategies to achieve their goals.

Outside of tutoring, I live an active life in the South Bay. I enjoy horseback riding, ice skating, board game nights with friends, and volunteering. I’m currently a puppy raiser with Canine Companions, so you will often see me with a future service-dog puppy!
