Biography

My family moved frequently around the United States during my childhood, exposing me to a wide range of academic environments and cultures. We eventually settled in the Bay Area, where I attended high school. I later received my B.A. from UCLA, where I studied philosophy and English. My academic work focused on metaphysics and philosophy of mind, as well as 17th century English Literature. I also worked on formal logic and the philosophy of physics and mathematics, which informs my pedagogical approach to quantitative reasoning. I am now pursuing graduate studies in philosophy, continuing to explore how we perceive, think, learn, and understand.

During my time at college, I served as president of the undergraduate philosophical society, where I gained experience delivering lectures and guiding students through difficult texts. I also edited the undergraduate philosophy journal, working closely with contributors to strengthen their analytical writing skills through the revision process.

I bring this same emphasis on clarity, structure, and careful reasoning to my work with students in both English and mathematics. Whether it’s the foundations of middle school math and science, or the reasoning required by standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, I love helping students build foundations and confidence in their problem-solving by demonstrating how abstract theories can illuminate concrete situations, and vice versa.

My commitment to tutoring grows out of a conviction that education is fundamentally about the joy of discovery. At its best, scholarship is not about simply memorizing or rehearsing inert facts, but rather about cultivating curiosity, intellectual humility, and sound judgment. Some of the most formative relationships in my life have been with teachers who demonstrated how course material can extend far beyond the classroom.

My previous professional experience in childcare has further shaped my approach to teaching. Effective mentorship requires patience, attentiveness, and a willingness to meet each student where they are. Every learner brings distinct strengths, questions, and challenges; meaningful instruction responds to those differences with care and flexibility. One-on-one tutoring provides an ideal setting for fostering this kind of individual growth.

Outside of tutoring, I continue to read widely in philosophy, science, and literature. I also value spending time outdoors and playing jazz and classical piano.
