Biography

I am a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Biological Sciences. I transferred to Cal Poly after spending a couple of years at Foothill College, where I discovered a passion for tutoring and learned how to put students and their individual needs at the center of the learning process. At Foothill, I had the pleasure of tutoring students through the Pass the Torch program, which taught me the importance of meeting each student where they are and adapting my approach to help them succeed.

I enjoy tutoring because I love sharing interesting tidbits with others. I’ve always enjoyed peppering my family with one “Did you know…?” fact after another, and one of my favorite activities is to “play tour guide” and share fun facts about wherever we happen to be. In another life, I would probably be doing just that! As a tutor, I get to bring that same curiosity to the subjects I teach.

My primary subjects are biology and algebra. Biology is especially close to my heart because of my educational background, while I also enjoy the problem-solving process that comes with math. My tutoring style is very student-focused, and I aim to be a “tour guide” for wherever a student is in their biology or algebra curriculum. Rather than simply giving students answers, I ask questions, work through problems alongside them, and help them develop the skills and confidence to arrive at answers independently. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to what works best for the person I’m working with.

Outside of tutoring, I’m a Bay Area native and a lifelong Giants fan. I still remember my parents pulling me and my siblings out of school in 2014 to see the Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals at home in the NLCS and advance to the World Series!
