Melissa Griffin

Biography

I grew up in the Bay Area where I went to San Jose State University for Chemistry. While I was never an official tutor, I enjoyed discussing with fellow classmates on my thought processes on understanding the concepts and teaching others the small tips and tricks to do better on tests. I ended up loving learning Chemistry so much that I continued with my Master’s degree in Chemistry at New York University where I mentored undergraduates in Chemistry laboratory experiments and lecture. I found that I had a passion for teaching when I had one-on-one experiences with students reviewing core concepts by working through problem examples and going through review of previous work.

I find the most effective method to learn the sciences is to have the fundamental concepts be solidified and continuously revisited when new information is learned. As overwhelming Chemistry and Biology can be, these are subjects that are built from the ground-up, and I will make sure the foundation remains strong.

Beyond being a tutor, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Cinnamon, where we take long walks with her around the city. If not outside with friends or my dog, you can find me nose deep in videos games where I love to read visual novels and play tactical games.
