Michelle Koo

Marketing Lead & College Counselor

Biography

With my communications background, I’ve always embraced being a people-person, finding joy in building relationships and fostering spaces where everyone feels welcomed. As a former AJ student and Saratoga High School grad, I understand the challenges of balancing student-life and always lead with a supportive perspective.

My approach as a college counselor is centered on empowering students by meeting them where they are and providing an organized, clear, and personalized structure tailored to their individual needs. From advising on personal statements to building college lists, I enjoy guiding students through every step of the college application process while easing as much stress as possible for both students and parents.

Drawing from my marketing background, I’ve found that a key part of the admissions journey is helping students learn to “market themselves” in a way that feels authentic, while strengthening their confidence to pursue what’s ahead. My goal is to help students feel confident, prepared, and excited as they take on this new chapter of their lives.

Originally from the Bay Area, I moved to the Midwest to receive my B.A. in Business Communications from Purdue University, where I served as a Dean’s Ambassador for the College of Liberal Arts. I loved my time at Purdue and remain active with alumni initiatives, currently as an Alumni Board Member. After completing my M.A. in Digital Communications at Johns Hopkins University, I worked as a Brand Strategist at SoFi, developing campaigns to boost financial confidence, and then as Social Media Manager at KiwiCo, promoting hands-on learning for kids. My heart has always been in education and I’m thrilled to bring my mentorship and marketing experience to the AJ team!

When I’m not at AJ, you’ll find me enjoying live music, practicing yoga, making jewelry, playing with cats, eating good food and hanging out with friends & family.
