Mustafa Abuzahriyeh

Academic and Test Prep Tutor

Biography

As a tutor at AJ, I get the most satisfaction from doing work that helps others. In a society which is increasingly reliant on technology that can diminish the enjoyment of learning, I want to help students cultivate a love for learning that will endure well beyond their time as students.

Growing up in Daly City, I went to college at UC Berkeley, where I studied physics and Middle Eastern languages and cultures, with a specialization in Arabic language and literature. In addition, I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in physics at SFSU. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from my educational journey so far is the impact that a student’s practice (or lack thereof) has on educational results. It can be very easy to feel discouraged when you don’t understand a topic or idea immediately, but that’s completely normal. I hope to emphasize the importance of best academic practices for my students, so that they can avoid making the same mistakes that I made in college before developing more useful and productive study habits.

Besides knowing the relevant content, just understanding how to approach a test like the SAT is an important skill which can boost test scores. I am truly excited to help students navigate the SAT test-taking process, while practicing and refining their strategies and skills so that they can achieve their desired score.

In my tutoring sessions, I also emphasize the importance of consistent practice and feedback to make sure that the student is comfortable with needed concepts and skills before moving on to the next step. My goal is to create a professional and safe environment where students feel at ease asking questions and empowered in their education.

Outside of work and school, I enjoy playing video games, watching cooking competitions (although I do not know how to cook!), and spending time with my family.

Happy Parents and Students

""My tutor was very patient when I had lots of questions which I something I always appreciate. They also understood how I learned, which helped me learn quicker.""
