Biography

Growing up in Palo Alto, I attended Paly for two years before transferring to Middle College to finish high school. The dual-enrollment structure allowed me to explore a wide range of subjects, which is how I accidentally discovered a love for science.

I had never been particularly interested in science or math. I did theatre, worked in a bookstore, and mostly took psychology and art electives. I took a chemistry class just to fulfill a graduation requirement, but my professor pushed me to engage with the content more intentionally, and I found I really enjoyed it. I went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from UC Santa Cruz.

Another incredible professor gave me the opportunity to join his lab there, so I spent all four years working on biochemistry research. Working in a lab was one of the most valuable parts of my education. Putting all my theoretical knowledge to practical use deepened my understanding of the material more than studying ever could. More importantly, it kept my love for chemistry alive.

I believe maintaining a sense of curiosity and excitement about a subject is just as important as any study skill, since nothing makes learning harder than feeling terrible while you do it. Tutoring allows me to share my passion for chemistry and biology, and help students develop a positive relationship with the material.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, cycling, table top games, pottery, and fiber crafts.
