Biography

I was born in Berkeley and raised  in San Francisco with my seven siblings. Growing up, my house was always hectic and full of sibling noise, so I went to UC Santa Cruz as an undergraduate to study among the redwoods and find my peace. I was drawn in by a University nestled in the woods, and was not disappointed by all of the natural charm. Between my time frolicking in nature and late night jam sessions, I earned a Physics Bachelors of Science. The combination of my required Physics and humanities courses allowed me to foster a more mindful understanding of others, develop creative critical thinking skills, and have more intention through every action.

Aside from my education, I do particle physics research and often find myself in another redwood forest in Sonoma County each summer as camp counselor and leader. It’s in these spaces where I found that I love academia and working with youth, and tutoring is my perfect blend of passions! Some skills I’ve gained through my research include coding and computational skills, project management, and an intrinsic motivation to take initiative and complete my tasks. My summer camp experience has completely changed me. Collaborating so closely with my coworkers and campers for months at a time strengthened my ability to be patient and empathetic in very fun, dynamic, and sometimes unpredictable environments.

My experience leading group study sessions in college and working with youth at camp caused me to realize how important asking questions and participation is in learning. The pursuit of knowledge looks different for everyone, but the goal of deeper understanding exists for everyone in that pursuit no matter what phase you are currently in. AJ Tutoring’s 1-on-1 format allows me to get to know each student and accommodate them accordingly to best aid them in their personal learning journey. My previous experience has also taught me that my learning never ends, and I am always receptive to alternative thoughts or methods from my peers and students.

Aside from AJ Tutoring, I spend my time writing music with friends, playing competitive videogames, tending to my houseplants, and curating fun and colorful trinkets and decor for my home!

Happy Parents and Students

""I felt like I was really learning - not just memorizing the topics we needed to memorize. Even though I had so little time to prepare and cover 3 units of material before the AP, my tutor made such a big commitment to making sure I aced the exam and felt ready to answer questions on a variety of topics.""
